A 7-year-old girl has died after drowning at a water park in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.
At approximately 12:20 p.m. on July 11, a report was received that a 7-year-old girl, identified as A, was found floating face down in a wave pool at a water park in Daehwa-dong, Ilsanseo-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.
A was found in a state of cardiac arrest and was transported to a hospital while receiving CPR from paramedics, but she ultimately passed away yesterday, one day after the incident.
It was reported that A was wearing a life jacket at the time she was discovered.
Police investigation revealed that A was visiting the water park as part of a group outing organized by a nearby taekwondo studio and was involved in the accident while playing in the wave pool.
Although a chaperone from the taekwondo studio was present at the time, it was confirmed that another visitor at the water park was the first to discover A and report the incident.
The police have booked the water park safety personnel and the director of the taekwondo studio on charges of professional negligence resulting in death, and are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident, including whether safety management protocols were followed.
Additionally, authorities are reviewing whether the Serious Accidents Punishment Act applies to the water park operator to determine if there were any operational failures.
