Singer Kim Gun-mo is receiving a warm response from the public for his first new song in 10 years. It is particularly noteworthy that this reaction was achieved solely through music, without any special broadcast activities.
The music video for his new single "How Far Are You," released on the 1st, surpassed 800,000 views on YouTube in 12 days. With over 2,400 comments, fans who have waited a long time for his voice are expressing their joy.
"How Far Are You" is Kim Gun-mo's first official new song in 10 years since his 25th-anniversary album "50" in 2016. It is a remake of the song of the same name by singer Jeon Young, originally released in 1977. The arrangement minimizes instrumentation to highlight the lyrical melody of the original, allowing Kim Gun-mo's unique, calm, and deepened voice to shine through.
At the heart of this response is Kim Gun-mo's voice. As this music video marks his return after a six-year hiatus—following the complete legal resolution of private life allegations raised by a YouTuber in 2019—many have flooded the comments with support. Comments include, "Kim Gun-mo is truly irreplaceable," "Please cherish that voice. Keep singing for a long time," and "We almost lost a genius singer. Thank you so much for coming back." Another netizen wrote, "Thank you for finding the courage to return. I want to see you for a long time."
This new song holds special meaning for Kim Gun-mo as well. He set aside the "Kim Gun-mo playing the piano" image familiar to the public and played the acoustic guitar himself for the first time. It is reported that during his long hiatus, Kim Gun-mo spent his time practicing the guitar for four to five hours a day and cycling nearly 100km daily.
Celebrating his 35th anniversary this year, Kim Gun-mo is preparing to meet the fans who have waited for him for a long time through concerts.
