Lawmaker Han Jun-ho, who serves as the ranking member of the Democratic Party on the National Assembly's Science, ICT, Broadcasting, and Communications Committee, along with other Democratic Party committee members, has urged the People Power Party to return to the National Assembly immediately.
During a press conference held at the National Assembly this morning (July 13), Representative Han stated, "The People Power Party has been refusing to participate in standing committee meetings for over a month, citing negotiations over the formation of the National Assembly. They are prioritizing political strife over the livelihoods of the people and choosing to stall rather than take responsibility."
"If there is a difference of opinion, we should debate it. If there is a disagreement on a bill, we should discuss it in the standing committee and put it to a vote in the plenary session. That is the job of the National Assembly, and that is democracy," Han said. "Leaving the National Assembly empty is a betrayal of the responsibility entrusted to us by the people."
Representative Han and his fellow Democratic Party committee members emphasized the role of the Science, ICT, Broadcasting, and Communications Committee, which is responsible for policies regarding AI, research and development, broadcasting, and telecommunications. They added, "Legislation and budget reviews to secure the nation's future competitiveness must not be delayed any further."
They stressed, "The Lee Jae-myung administration and the Democratic Party are currently pushing three major mega-projects as national strategies, centered on an AI highway, an energy highway, and a high-tech industrialization highway. However, the government cannot complete these alone; it requires legislation from the National Assembly, budget deliberation, and responsible policy discussion."
The Democratic Party committee members called on the People Power Party, stating, "You must no longer hold the National Assembly hostage. Instead of looking for justification outside the National Assembly, you should face the judgment of the people inside it."
