The special police investigation team looking into the allegations of misconduct surrounding the Jang Yun-gi case has summoned one of the key officials who directed the initial investigation to determine whether there was any interference from higher-ups. The second hearing of the first trial for the Jang Yun-gi case is scheduled for today (July 13), and the focus is on whether Jang will admit to having an intent to commit sexual assault.

The individual summoned by the special police investigation team yesterday afternoon is Superintendent B, the former head of the detective division at Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station, who directly oversaw the investigation team for the Jang Yun-gi case.
This marks the first time the special investigation team has summoned anyone from the chain of command that supervised the investigation at the time.
It is reported that the police questioned Superintendent B about the discussions held during a strategy meeting presided over by the Gwangsan Police Station chief immediately after the incident occurred, as well as the reasons why the charge of murder was applied to Jang Yun-gi instead of the relatively more severe charge of rape and murder.
They are also verifying whether the so-called higher-ups, including Superintendent B, were involved in the destruction of evidence by Jang Yun-gi's father, who is an incumbent police officer.
The special investigation team, which also re-summoned and questioned Inspector A, the head of the investigation team who was arrested on the 8th, plans to examine the entire decision-making process of the chain of command, which includes the Gwangsan Police Station detective division head, the Gwangsan Police Station chief, the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency investigation bureau chief, and the commissioner.
They are also continuing to analyze various meeting materials and work journals secured through the search and seizure of the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency commissioner's office and other locations the day before yesterday, as well as the mobile phones of the leadership at the time, including the Gwangsan Police Station chief.
Meanwhile, the second hearing of the first trial for the Jang Yun-gi case will be held this morning.
During the first trial last month, Jang Yun-gi's side admitted to most of the charges brought by the prosecution but reserved their position regarding the intent to commit sexual assault.
The prosecution is expected to submit additional evidence, such as cable ties, which were secured during the search and seizure of the suspect's father, Superintendent Jang.
With allegations of evidence destruction by his father, Superintendent Jang, and collusion within the police force emerging, attention is focused on whether Jang Yun-gi's side will admit to the intent to commit sexual assault, which was first brought to light through the prosecution's supplementary investigation.
