The police are summoning and questioning the former head of the detective division at the Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station, who led the investigation team at the time of the Jang Yun-gi case.
The National Police Agency's special investigation team summoned the former detective chief, identified as A, as a witness this afternoon (July 12).
This marks the first time the special investigation team has questioned A since its launch.
It is reported that the police plan to focus their questioning on what was discussed during a countermeasure meeting presided over by the Gwangsan Police Station chief immediately after the incident, and the circumstances under which the relatively lighter charge of murder was applied to Jang Yun-gi instead of rape and murder.
The investigation also covers whether the chain of command, including A, was involved in the destruction of evidence by Jang Yun-gi's father, who is a serving police officer.
