The investigator suspected of leaking investigation details to the police officer father of Jang Yun-gi, the perpetrator in the Gwangju High School Girl Murder Case, has undergone questioning by both the prosecution and the police over the past two days. The acting head of the National Police Agency, who returned early from a trip to the United States, has issued a public apology.

The police special investigation team summoned Police Sergeant A, a member of the investigation team at Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station responsible for the Jang Yun-gi case, yesterday (July 10).

Sergeant A is identified as the investigator who allegedly provided investigation information to Jang Yun-gi's father, Police Inspector Jang.

Investigations revealed that Sergeant A, who previously worked with Inspector Jang at the same patrol division, referred to him respectfully as "senior" and had communicated with him via phone multiple times.

The prosecution previously summoned Sergeant A as a suspect on July 9. It is reported that they focused their questioning on a recorded file and phone logs in which Sergeant A allegedly told Inspector Jang to "keep quiet about the fact that Jang Yun-gi is from a police family."

SBS has confirmed that Inspector Jang, the father of Jang Yun-gi, voluntarily appeared before the police special investigation team yesterday, stating he "had something to say," and underwent his second round of questioning.

The police are currently analyzing records and audio files of conversations between Jang Yun-gi and his parents during their visits while he was detained at the Gwangju Seobu Police Station after his emergency arrest and before he was referred to the prosecution for the murder of Lee Chae-won.

Authorities are investigating whether there were discussions about destroying key evidence during the three visits, which lasted a total of about one hour, and whether the investigation team to which Sergeant A belongs informed Inspector Jang of the available visitation times.

Yoo Jae-sung, the acting Commissioner General of the Korean National Police Agency, who cut his business trip to the United States short by one day to return home, offered his first official apology to the bereaved family and the public.

He emphasized, "We will strictly punish the responsible parties to the fullest extent allowed by law and regulations."
