President Lee Jae-myung, who is on a state visit to Mongolia, met with Korean residents and stated, "The people will not have to worry about the country from now on."
President Lee made the remarks after listening to various suggestions from Korean residents at a luncheon meeting held at a hotel in Ulaanbaatar on July 10 (local time).
"The reason Korea and Mongolia could become deep friends is because of the similar temperaments of both nations," President Lee said. "The nomadic spirit of Mongolia, which takes the vast grasslands as the stage for life and seeks new paths, and Korea's unique pioneering spirit are major links that allow us to understand each other."
In particular, he noted, "I heard that a vibrant Korean economic zone has formed in Ulaanbaatar, to the point where it is called 'Mong-tan New Town' (a portmanteau of Mongolia and Dongtan New Town) due to the concentration of Korean shops, restaurants, cafes, academies, and businesses." He added, "It is all thanks to the efforts of you, our compatriots, that the Republic of Korea has established itself as one of the most familiar countries in Mongolia."
He emphasized, "You have faithfully played the role of a bridge between the two countries, and based on those achievements, both nations can now open a new era as strategic partners, continuing cooperation in various fields such as core infrastructure, high-tech industries, energy, supply chains, and digital transformation."
He added, "As the President of Mongolia also stated that the Republic of Korea is one of the most important partners among Mongolia's 'third neighbors,' cooperation between the two countries will deepen further."
President Lee promised, "We are pushing for a comprehensive survey on the difficulties compatriots face regarding residency systems, administrative procedures, and educational environments," and added, "We will strive to ensure that overseas diplomatic missions become a reliable platform for resolving your issues."
He also jokingly remarked, "If you find it difficult to see the Ambassador to Mongolia who is sitting next to you, please let me know."
Generally, exchanges between countries are initiated by governments and then lead to private-sector exchanges, but the Korea-Mongolia relationship has been slightly different.
For a century, numerous Korean compatriots have already come to this land to establish schools, share technologies, and build businesses, thereby accumulating trust.
Through his social media, President Lee also pledged, "I vow to listen more closely to the voices of the Korean community with a heavy sense of responsibility," and added, "I will do my utmost to build a more reliable and proud Republic of Korea so that your efforts and dedication are not in vain."
