A police inspector at the Seoul Gwangjin Police Station was relieved of his duties today (July 10) over allegations that he traded investigation information with an informant he met during a drug investigation.
The Seoul Gangdong Police Station has recently booked the inspector, identified as A, on charges including the leakage of official secrets and is currently investigating the case.
The police launched the investigation after discovering text message records containing evidence of information trading between Inspector A and an individual known as an informant while investigating a suspect in a separate drug case.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency placed Inspector A on standby on July 2 and issued the order to relieve him of his duties today.
The police have seized the inspector's mobile phone and are verifying the specific circumstances surrounding the leakage of investigation information.
