An incumbent district council member has been apprehended by police on charges of drunk driving after taking the wheel once her designated driver had exited the vehicle.
The Hyehwa Police Station announced today, July 9, that it has booked a woman in her 50s, identified as A, on charges of driving under the influence and is currently investigating the case.
A, who serves as a member of the Jongno District Council, is accused of driving her vehicle at around 12:50 a.m. while intoxicated at a level warranting a license suspension.
Investigations revealed that A had arrived at her destination in a vehicle driven by a designated driver, but took the wheel herself immediately after the driver got out.
The designated driver witnessed the incident and reported it to the police. Officers arrived at the scene, booked A, and allowed her to return home. Police plan to summon A soon to investigate the exact circumstances of the incident.
