▲ Card news on the audit results of Eumseong County
An audit has revealed that Eumseong County pushed forward with a tourism development project without following the necessary licensing and permit procedures required by relevant laws, raising concerns about the waste of budget funds.
The Board of Audit and Inspection (BAI) released the results of its regular audits of Eumseong County and Geumsan County today (July 9).
According to the BAI, while Eumseong County was carrying out an experiential recreation and tourism resource project from 2021 to 2025—which involved spending 18 billion won to build pedestrian bridges and other facilities at local reservoirs—it failed to obtain the farmland conversion permits required by law. Furthermore, at the direction of the county governor, the county added an observation deck facility and changed the design without obtaining separate usage permits.
In response, the BAI has requested disciplinary action against the project team leader and notified the county to modify the design of the observation deck.
The BAI also pointed out that in the case of Geumsan County, although it had decided through an ordinance to entrust the operation of six sports facilities, including badminton courts, to respective sports associations and collect usage fees, it allowed the associations to use the facilities at their discretion without actually collecting any fees.
