Asan, South Chungcheong Province, which received an average of over 134mm of rain between the night of July 8 and the early hours of today (July 9), has reported damage including toppled trees and the formation of sinkholes.
According to the Asan city government, two cases of fallen trees and one sinkhole have been reported and addressed so far. No casualties have been confirmed.
Following the issuance of a heavy rain warning this morning, two underpasses in Eumnae-dong and Gokgyo-dong, as well as two riverside roads near Sinpung Bridge and Bonggang Bridge, were closed. Two additional underpasses managed by the Regional Office of Construction and Transport have also been shut down.
Two vehicles were submerged under Bonggang Bridge, but they were unoccupied, and the situation has been resolved.
In addition, one low-water bridge (sewolgyo), three riverside parking lots, one campsite, and two walking trails remain closed.
The city has completed preliminary inspections of 368 disaster-prone areas, as well as major facilities including drainage pump stations, detention basins, and erosion control structures.
As of 9:30 a.m. today, the cumulative rainfall in the city over the past two days averaged 134.8mm, with Yeongin-myeon recording the highest at 161mm.
Nearby Eumbong-myeon (155mm) and Dunpo-myeon (154mm) also experienced heavy rainfall.
The city activated Level 1 of its Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters at 10:00 p.m. on July 8, with approximately 60 officials, including those from the Safety Management Division, working through the night to monitor the situation.
