The Nakdong River Flood Control Office upgraded the flood risk level to 'severe' for the area around Kimyong-ri, Yeongsun-myeon, Mungyeong, where the Yeonggang River—a national tributary of the Nakdong River—flows, effective as of 10:10 a.m. today (July 9).
A flood advisory had been issued for this location at 7:30 a.m. today, but as rainfall continued, the risk level was raised to a flood warning at 9:50 a.m.
The Nakdong River Flood Control Office urged residents to "prepare for potential river flooding."
From midnight on July 8 to 8:00 a.m. today, Mungyeong recorded 113.9 mm of rainfall.
However, there have been no reports of flooding damage around the Yeonggang River thus far.
Police are advising citizens to move vehicles parked near the riverbanks to safer locations.
Mungyeong city officials stated, "There have been no cases of flooding around the Yeonggang River yet, and we are continuing to conduct patrols."
According to meteorological authorities, as of 7:00 a.m., heavy rain alerts remain in effect for regions including Sangju, Mungyeong, Yecheon, Yeongju, and the plains and mountainous areas of Bonghwa in Gyeongbuk.
Additionally, due to heavy rain that fell overnight in the northern Gyeongbuk region, 11 cases of damage, including flooded homes, fallen trees, and rockfalls, have been reported in Mungyeong, Andong, Yeongju, and Sangju.
