Goesan Dam in North Chungcheong Province is increasing its water discharge due to heavy rainfall in the upper reaches of the river.
Since June 21, the beginning of the flood season, Goesan Dam has kept all seven of its floodgates fully open to release incoming water.
According to the Goesan Hydroelectric Power Plant on Thursday, July 9, approximately 770 tons of water per second were being discharged downstream as of 9:50 a.m. today.
The discharge rate is expected to increase to 1,500 tons per second by 1:50 p.m. today.
Goesan County sent out a safety text message stating, "Water levels in the river are expected to rise. Those near the river are advised to move to a safe location."
