A 70-year-old individual has received a suspended prison sentence for threatening a neighbor with a weapon after becoming angry over the noise from a barking dog.
The Ulsan District Court, presided over by Judge Shin Hye-won of the 2nd Criminal Division, announced on Thursday (July 9) that it had sentenced the defendant, identified as A, to one year in prison, suspended for two years, on charges of special intimidation.
In April of this year, A approached a neighbor in their 50s, identified as B, in front of their home in Ulsan at night while holding a weapon in one hand and threatened them with verbal abuse.
A, angered by the loud barking of the dog owned by B, committed the act while shouting, "Are you trying to keep people from sleeping? I will kill you."
The court stated the reason for the sentencing, noting, "Although the defendant has multiple prior convictions for violence, we took into account that the crime was committed impulsively while under the influence of alcohol, as well as the motive for the crime and the defendant's age."
