[Anchor] Mysterious graffiti has been appearing all over downtown Seoul. Who is 'Kim Ji-mi'?
[Reporter] Yes, there have been a series of reports recently from areas including Seoul Station, City Hall, Jongno, and Dongdaemun about graffiti written with black spray paint or permanent markers reading 'Kim Ji-mi'.
Phrases such as 'Kim Ji-mi Click' and 'World's Most Beautiful Woman Kim Ji-mi' are repeatedly appearing on public facilities like utility poles, transformers, and bus stops.
While the number of confirmed graffiti instances has reached approximately 500, the author and the motive remain unknown.
Given that the graffiti includes expressions like 'passed away' and 'beautiful woman,' it is presumed to refer to the veteran actor Kim Ji-mi, who passed away last year.
Some speculate that this might be an attempt to drive traffic to a specific website or a form of viral marketing.
The police received reports and launched an investigation, but it is reported that the case was closed without identifying the perpetrator.
Leaving unauthorized graffiti on public facilities in the city can be subject to criminal punishment under the charge of property damage.
In fact, in 2023, a foreigner who left graffiti reading 'I-gal-i' (teeth grinding) about 130 times in the Yongsan area of Seoul was sentenced to one year in prison.
