▲ Scene of the accident on the Gyeongbu Expressway
At 4:45 a.m. today (July 8), a Mercedes-Benz passenger car traveling toward Seoul rear-ended a 25-ton tanker truck in the third lane at the 70-kilometer mark from Busan on the Gyeongbu Expressway in Yuldong, Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province.
The collision caused the Mercedes-Benz to overturn and the tanker truck to tip onto its side, leaving the driver of the tanker truck with minor injuries.
Due to the accident, approximately 8,000 liters of the 28,000 liters of gasoline being transported by the tanker leaked, prompting fire authorities to conduct cleanup operations in cooperation with relevant agencies.
Additionally, three of the four lanes on the Gyeongju IC to West Gyeongju IC section toward Seoul were closed, but traffic resumed at 8:03 a.m.
The police are currently investigating the circumstances of the accident by questioning the drivers involved.
