SBS and the Korea Institute of Local Finance held a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing ceremony at the SBS Broadcasting Center in Mok-dong, Seoul, on the morning of July 7. The two organizations agreed to cooperate to promote and establish the Hometown Love Donation System, aiming to overcome the crisis of regional extinction and revitalize local economies.
Through this agreement, the Korea Institute of Local Finance will collaborate with SBS to promote the Hometown Love Donation System, pursue necessary projects, and support related publicity and campaigns.
SBS has committed to actively promoting, covering, and reporting on the Korea Institute of Local Finance, and will provide the institute with priority opportunities to participate in events and program planning related to the Hometown Love Donation System.
SBS President Bang Sang-shin stated, As population decline accelerates due to low birth rates and an aging society, overcoming the crisis of regional extinction and revitalizing local economies have emerged as urgent tasks. He added that SBS will take the lead in raising awareness and establishing the Hometown Love Donation System in cooperation with the Korea Institute of Local Finance.
Shin Seung-keun, President of the Korea Institute of Local Finance, emphasized that the institute has designated the revitalization of the Hometown Love Donation System as one of its core tasks. He stated that the institute plans to continuously expand related research and policy support so that the system can evolve beyond a new means of securing financial resources for local governments into a policy platform that responds to regional economic revitalization and local extinction.
Last year, SBS signed an MOU with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (Minister Yun Ho-jung) and the Korea Association of Certified Public Tax Attorneys (Chairman Koo Jae-yi) to cooperate between the public and private sectors to raise public awareness of the Hometown Love Donation System and promote its effects on regional economic revitalization.
In line with this purpose, SBS will co-host the 2nd Hometown Love Donation Awards at the Prism Tower in Sangam-dong, Seoul, on September 4 to mark Hometown Love Day, where it will present awards to individuals of merit and outstanding local governments.
Furthermore, on September 19 and 20, SBS will hold the 1st Hometown Love Festa at the aT Center in Yangjae-dong, Seoul, in partnership with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. The event will feature exhibitions of return gifts, tourism, experiences, and promotional content from major local governments.
SBS plans to hold a separate academic seminar with the Korea Institute of Local Finance to share best practices for hometown love donations, and the Korea Association of Certified Public Tax Attorneys will also participate in joint promotional activities to encourage participation in the system.
