Director Na Hong-jin's new film, Hope, was unveiled in Korea for the first time through a press screening yesterday (July 6).
Regarding the ending, which received mixed reviews at the Cannes Film Festival, Director Na explained that the film possesses a sense of completeness.
[Voice: No matter how much of a monster it is, it cannot be like that.]
Hope begins with the story of residents in Hopohang who claim to have seen a monster attacking their village.
At the press conference held yesterday, Director Na addressed the ending, which leaves room for a potential sequel, by saying that while audiences might imagine different futures for the characters after the film ends, he felt that any scene he might have shown would have just been another imagined sequence.
He emphasized that he believed he had told all the stories that could be told to this extent, adding that even if the story is not perfect, it clearly possesses completeness.
The action sequences performed by the actors are also a key highlight of Hope.
Jo In-sung, who personally performed horseback riding and gun action scenes, said of the final scene that it was worth all the hard work, to the point where he felt it was a great scene.
