The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Film Council announced that they will distribute approximately 2.05 million movie discount vouchers, each worth 6,000 won, for the second round starting at 10:00 a.m. on July 8.
Previously, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism secured 27.1 billion won in supplementary budget to stabilize public livelihood and revitalize the film industry, distributing the first round of discount vouchers in May.
These second-round discount vouchers can be used through the official websites and mobile applications of major cinema chains, including CGV, Lotte Cinema, Megabox, and Cine Q.
Two vouchers per person will be automatically issued to the online coupon box of each theater's registered members, and they can be applied when purchasing movie tickets.
However, the discount will end on a first-come, first-served basis once the quantity allocated to each cinema chain is exhausted, and any unused vouchers remaining in the coupon box will automatically expire.
Independent and art-house theaters, excluding the four major cinema chains, have been applying on-site discounts on a first-come, first-served basis continuously since May, regardless of the distribution rounds.
The list of participating theaters and the status of remaining funds can be checked on the Korean Film Council website.
An official from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism analyzed, "Theater revenue increased by approximately 48% in the week immediately following the first distribution compared to the week before," adding that "the discount vouchers have had a positive impact on theater visits by audiences."
