"HOPE", widely considered the most anticipated Korean film of 2026, is already heating up the box office with impressive pre-sale figures nine days ahead of its release.
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network for movie theater tickets on July 6, "HOPE" has secured the top spot in both pre-sale rate (44.7%) and total pre-sale volume (86,000 tickets). Immediately upon the opening of ticket reservations, the film surged past the upcoming release "Moana" and the current box office leader, "Toy Story 5", to claim the number one position.
"HOPE" follows the story of Beom-seok, the head of a branch office in Hopohang located in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). The plot unfolds when he receives reports from local youths about the appearance of a tiger, leading the entire village into a state of emergency as they face an unbelievable reality. Having been invited to the Competition section of the Cannes Film Festival and receiving significant attention from global media and critics, "HOPE" is set to officially meet domestic audiences in about a month and a half.
The buzz surrounding "HOPE" has reached its peak, driven by the high expectations domestic audiences have for the Na Hong-jin brand, combined with the premium effect of its Cannes Film Festival invitation. The film will be unveiled today, July 6, through a press and distribution screening.
The official release date for "HOPE" is July 15.
