President Lee Jae-myung: Mega-Projects Are Not for Approval Ratings, I Have Dreamed of Them Since Before Taking Office

President Lee Jae-myung refuted opposition party criticism regarding the three major mega-projects, which are large-scale regional investment initiatives, on July 4, stating that if they were merely political tools for managing approval ratings, he would have launched them before the local elections.

In a post on the social media platform X earlier today, President Lee stated, "A grand transformation of the national territory on a scale that would change the world has been a dream of mine from long before I took office."

Regarding the People Power Party's claim that political considerations were reflected in the announcement of the mega-projects, he emphasized, "While approval ratings are important, what is more important are the achievements and results that will improve the lives of the people."

He added, "Approval ratings are like the wind, coming and going or changing in strength, but achievements and results are like mountains that do not change easily," and noted that "approval ratings naturally follow achievements and results."

Furthermore, he stated, "These mega-projects will create new hope and a future for the people and the Republic of Korea," adding, "I will do my utmost to restore vitality to young people who are losing opportunities and feeling frustrated."
