U.S. President Donald Trump visited Mount Rushmore in South Dakota for the first time in 6 years on the eve of the Independence Day marking the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
President Trump delivered a speech at the park, which features the massive carved faces of four former U.S. presidents: George Washington (1st), Thomas Jefferson (3rd), Abraham Lincoln (16th), and Theodore Roosevelt (26th), on Friday (July 3).
Prior to the speech, the presidential aircraft carrying President Trump performed a commemorative flyover above Mount Rushmore upon its arrival.
In his address, President Trump instilled a sense of pride, calling the U.S., which is celebrating its 250th anniversary, the "oldest republic" on Earth, and stating that it is "the most successful, the most accomplished, and the most exceptional nation in the history of the world."
However, he immediately launched an attack by defining democratic socialism, which is rising within the opposition Democratic Party's hard-left faction, as "communism."
"We are now witnessing a new attack on our American identity," President Trump said. "A generation after we fought and won the Cold War against the threat of communism, we are now seeing the rise of a communist threat on our own soil."
He continued, "This includes immigrants who embrace ideologies that are completely opposed to our way of life and our great success," adding, "We will not let them win. They cannot defeat us."
President Trump also stated, "The United States will never be a communist country. The only way we will lose in the midterm elections is if we allow ourselves to lose, if we are foolish, stupid, and unwise."
Regarding Iran, President Trump said, "They are desperate to make a deal," and added, "We gave them a week's vacation to hold a funeral because we have been kind for 250 years."
President Trump previously visited this site on the day before Independence Day in 2020, during his first term in office.
