Woman in Her 60s Dies After Being Struck by Police Patrol Car: A Look at the Scene

A woman in her 60s who died after being struck by a police patrol car responding to a report of a person lying on the road has been identified as a local resident.

CCTV footage from near the accident site shows two patrol cars traveling straight along a side street before making a left turn into an alleyway.

It was determined that the lead patrol car then drove over the victim, identified as A, who was lying on the road 10 to 20 meters ahead.

Traces of blood remained at the scene, and white circular markings were visible on the ground.

The deceased, A, was confirmed to be a resident living near the accident site.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage, which shows A staggering before the accident, to determine the circumstances of why she was lying on the road.

The patrol car, which was responding to a report that a person was lying on the road, was driven by Officer B, a woman in her 20s from a precinct under the Incheon Michuhol Police Station, with Sergeant C from the same precinct in the passenger seat.

Officer B reportedly told police that she did not properly see A lying on the ground.

Streetlights were sparsely installed in the alleyway, an area densely packed with villas and detached houses.

Residents agreed that the area is somewhat dark, while expressing their sorrow over the incident.

A man in his 40s who lives near the accident site said, "I heard a commotion in front of my house and came out to see police checking if the victim was conscious," adding, "It is a path I walk every day, but it is quite dark here."

Another resident, a woman in her 80s, said, "Even though it is a bit dark, I think the officer could have seen the victim if they had been paying close attention to the road," adding, "It is so tragic that such a disaster occurred."

A was struck and killed by the patrol car driven by Officer B on a side street in Sungui-dong, Michuhol-gu, Incheon, at 12:45 a.m. today (July 3).

Police have booked Officer B on charges of causing death by professional negligence under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents and are investigating the specific circumstances of the accident.

A police official stated, "We are investigating the circumstances before and after the accident and whether Officer B was maintaining a proper lookout by analyzing CCTV footage and other evidence."
