The National Assembly's Special Committee on the June 3 Local Election ballot shortage entered the Olympic Park Handball Gymnasium in Songpa-gu, Seoul, today (July 2) with the cooperation of the police.
This comes 27 days after the blockade protests began on June 5, when two ballot boxes from the Jamsil 7-dong No. 2 polling station were transported to the handball gymnasium, which served as the vote counting center.
Upon entering the gymnasium, members of the special committee immediately moved to the basement to inspect the stored items in person, guided by relevant officials.
According to a report by the Songpa District Election Commission, the items currently stored in the rental office of the Olympic Park Handball Gymnasium include 104 voting records, 27 early voting records, 146 handover documents for ballot boxes and election-related documents, 460 vote counting status reports, 428 to 434 boxes of ballots, four ballot boxes from Jamsil 7-dong, election-related documents, logs for receiving and returning mail-in ballots, and boxes containing miscast or misclassified ballots.
Also present are ballot sorters, counting machines, laptops for reporting vote counts, other equipment related to the counting process, as well as rented PCs, printers, fax machines, and telephones.
The police warned that acts such as refusing to comply with safety measures, including the clearing of access routes, or assaulting or threatening police officers could be punishable as obstruction of justice. Following this warning, officers forcibly moved protesters gathered around the entrance to the outside one by one.
