The Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) and the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) have failed to reach an agreement regarding player participation slots for the LPGA Tour BMW Ladies Championship, which is scheduled to be held in South Korea this October.
As a result, the BMW Ladies Championship will not be recognized as an official KLPGA Tour event, meaning that any KLPGA Tour players who participate will not have their records officially recognized by the association.
According to the KLPGA, they had requested that the LPGA Tour allow 30 KLPGA Tour members to compete in the tournament, but the request was not accepted.
Since October of last year, the KLPGA had been negotiating with the LPGA Tour, maintaining that at least 30 players must be allowed to participate for it to be recognized as an official KLPGA Tour event. However, the LPGA Tour maintained its position that it would only permit 10 players to participate.
The BMW Ladies Championship is scheduled to take place over four days starting October 22 at Pine Beach Golf Links in Haenam, South Jeolla Province.
Because the tournament has not been recognized as an official KLPGA Tour event, KLPGA members could potentially face disciplinary action if they choose to participate.
A KLPGA official stated, "Considering the status of Korean women's golf, a minimum of 30 participants is the baseline principle for establishing an official event," adding, "We will continue to respond by prioritizing the rights and interests of our members and the sustainable development of Korean women's golf."
