The cumulative death toll from the recent series of powerful earthquakes in Venezuela has surpassed 2,000, according to figures released on Wednesday, July 1 (local time).
According to foreign media outlets including AFP, Jorge Rodriguez, President of the National Assembly of Venezuela, announced that the officially confirmed death toll from the earthquakes that struck on June 24 has reached 2,295.
This marks an increase of 352 from the previous day.
The number of injured has been recorded at 11,267.
As the human toll continues to rise, the Venezuelan government has declared a seven-day period of national mourning to honor the victims.
Venezuelan Interim President Delcy Rodriguez announced via Telegram that the national mourning period would begin at 6:00 p.m. that day and last for one week.
"Venezuela is experiencing a pain that tears at its soul due to the loss of life caused by the devastating earthquake," Interim President Rodriguez said in the announcement.
