Actor Kim Jung-tae, known for his roles in hit films such as Friend and Miracle in Cell No. 7, is taking on a new challenge as a film director with the upcoming movie Family Trip.
Family Trip is a road movie that captures the chaotic journey of a family who are more like strangers, with one destination but five different agendas. The film is highly anticipated as it marks actor Lee Hwi-hyang's first-ever lead role on the big screen in her 44-year acting career. She plays the role of Sun-im, a mother-in-law suffering from dementia.
Kim Jung-tae, who established himself as a top-tier actor with the ten-million-viewer hit Miracle in Cell No. 7, not only stars in Family Trip as Chang-wook, an incompetent husband who only chases his dreams, but also makes his directorial debut by co-directing the film alongside screenwriter Jung Jong-seop. Director Jung is a storyteller with solid field experience, having been part of the production team for director Kwak Kyung-taek's film Friend. Together, they aimed to create a warm and realistic family drama.
The newly released main poster catches the eye with the tagline, "One destination, five different thoughts. Will this trip really be okay?" while showing the family members displaying different emotions. Sun-im (Lee Hwi-hyang), the mother-in-law with dementia, looks bright and happy, while Young-ju (Seo Young-hee) stands beside her, watching her with a warm smile.
The film sparks curiosity about what will happen to this unconventional family, who are physically together but mentally worlds apart, as they embark on an impromptu trip to Busan.
Family Trip will be released in theaters this September.
Note: "Family Trip" is a romanization of the original Korean title "Gajok Yeohaeng," as no official English title has been released yet.
