A post has been spreading rapidly across anonymous online communities for office workers recently.
The post claims that the government has sent official letters to Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, ordering a full review of existing performance bonus agreements and requiring them to design and operate compensation and distribution systems in line with a government-led excess profit-sharing policy starting next year.
Specifically, the text alleges that excess profits would be distributed to subcontractors or the general public, and that current performance bonus agreements—including the removal of caps on bonuses—would be completely scrapped and reviewed from scratch.
As suspicions grew that the government had indeed sent such letters to Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix to enforce a semiconductor excess profit-sharing scheme, the Ministry of Employment and Labor stepped forward to issue a flat denial.
The Ministry stated that no such official letters have been sent.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced, "The posts currently circulating online regarding a 'semiconductor excess profit-sharing scheme' and the 'scrapping of performance bonus agreements' are completely groundless and factually incorrect." They added, "We plan to take strong action, including reporting to investigative authorities, against any malicious distribution of such false information in the future."
Separately, other false rumors regarding semiconductor companies like Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have also been circulating online.
Shortly after Samsung Electronics announced its investment plans for semiconductors in the Honam region, unverified claims spread internally suggesting that the company would provide hundreds of millions of won in support for employees transferring to Gwangju.
The post claimed that Samsung Electronics employees moving to the Gwangju area would receive 100 million won in relocation settlement funds, 400 million won in interest-free loans, and priority allocation for new apartment units in Gwangju's high-tech district. Samsung Electronics has drawn a line, stating that these claims are entirely untrue.
