An underground parking lot of a lodging facility in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province.
A woman is seen entering an elevator with a man to head to a room.
A short time later, emergency responders are seen transporting the woman on a stretcher to a hospital.
[Fire Department Official: We confirmed that we were dispatched after receiving a report that a friend had collapsed. She was conscious but unable to communicate.]
The victim, a Chinese national in her 30s identified as A, suddenly collapsed while receiving a so-called Y-zone filler procedure and was rushed to a hospital, but she ultimately passed away.
An autopsy by the National Forensic Service determined the cause of death to be a pulmonary embolism resulting from complications of the cosmetic filler procedure.
The injection damaged blood vessels, and the resulting blood clots blocked pulmonary vessels, leading to her death.
Police investigation revealed that the suspect, a Chinese national in his 30s identified as B, performed the illegal procedure without a medical license.
Police have placed a travel ban on B and conducted search and seizure operations at his home and the massage parlor he operates.
It was found that B recruited clients for the procedure using Telegram.
Immediately after the incident, B reportedly attempted to destroy evidence by hiding a suitcase containing syringes and other medical supplies in his vehicle.
Experts warn that filler procedures in specific areas of the body where blood vessels are concentrated carry a high risk of complications, and that receiving such procedures from non-medical professionals is extremely dangerous.
[Professor Yoo Sung-ho, Department of Forensic Medicine, Seoul National University: Because blood clots can travel to the lungs or brain, the risk of death becomes very high. The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and medical communities in many developed countries warn that injecting fillers in these areas is extremely dangerous.]
The police plan to refer B to the prosecution soon on charges of professional negligence resulting in death and violation of the Medical Service Act.
