▲ Feasibility Review for New Underground Road on Local Route 96
A feasibility study is underway to improve the urban road network directly connecting the Presidential Sejong Office and the National Assembly Sejong Building, which are set to be located in the National Symbolic Zone of Sejong City.
The National Agency for Administrative City Construction (NAACC) announced today (June 30) that it has launched a preliminary feasibility study for the construction of a new underground road on Local Route 96.
Local Route 96 is a major road connecting the southwestern part of Sejong City to the National Symbolic Zone. Currently, some sections are disconnected due to urban streams and cultural heritage sites, necessitating improvements.
The NAACC explained that it is pursuing this study to enhance traffic accessibility and improve urban traffic flow in preparation for the projected increase in future traffic demand following the development of the National Symbolic Zone.
According to the NAACC, once the development of the National Symbolic Zone is completed, the daily traffic volume in the surrounding area is expected to surge from the current 12,670 vehicles to 35,188.
Dohwa Engineering, the firm commissioned for the study, will carry out the task until June of next year. The NAACC plans to compare and review various options, including the construction of a new underground road, improvements to existing surface intersections, and maintaining the status quo, to evaluate the traffic improvement effects and the project's overall feasibility.
