As the crisis alert level for crude oil resource security has been lowered, the mandatory odd-even vehicle rotation system for the public sector will be eased to a 5-day rotation, and the 5-day rotation system for public parking lots will be lifted.
The government decided at a cabinet meeting today (June 30) to lower the crude oil resource security crisis alert from "Alert" to "Caution" and to lift the crisis alert for liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Due to the energy crisis stemming from the war in the Middle East, a 5-day vehicle rotation system was made mandatory for the public sector on March 25, and it was strengthened to an odd-even system on April 8.
However, according to the Ministry of Climate, a total of approximately 27,000 cases of violations of the odd-even system were detected across 25 ministries and all public institutions as of the 22nd, raising questions about its effectiveness.
Regarding the 5-day rotation system for public parking lots, the Ministry of Climate initially stated that it would apply to approximately 30,000 locations, or about 1 million parking spaces. However, it was found that as of 10 days after implementation, it was only applied to 1,694 locations across 128 local governments.
