An active-duty police officer is under investigation after being caught attempting to board an aircraft at Jeju Airport while in possession of live pistol ammunition.

According to the Jeju Seobu Police Station and the Korea Airports Corporation Jeju Airport on Tuesday (June 30), Officer A, a police officer in his 30s assigned to a local precinct in Gyeonggi Province, was found to be carrying two rounds of .38-caliber pistol ammunition while undergoing security screening to board a JIN flight bound for Gimpo at 9:15 p.m. on June 28.

The ammunition was discovered during the X-ray screening process, classified as a security-prohibited item, and handed over to the airport police unit.

It was confirmed that Officer A was not in possession of a handgun at the time.

The .38-caliber pistol is known to be the standard firearm typically used by police officers in the field.

It was determined that Officer A was not caught during the security screening process when he departed from Gimpo Airport for Jeju on June 26.

The police are currently investigating Officer A regarding how he came to possess the ammunition, the reason for his travel, and the process by which the ammunition was brought into the airport.
