Han Byung-do, Acting Leader and Floor Leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, announced, "We will hold a plenary session at 2:00 p.m. today (June 30) to form the standing committees for the second half of the 22nd National Assembly and to confirm the Prime Minister nominee (Han Seong-sook)."
During the floor strategy meeting held at the National Assembly today, Acting Leader Han stated, "We can no longer wait for the People Power Party, which is ignoring the National Assembly Act by insisting on controlling the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, refusing to negotiate, and failing to submit their list of members for the standing committees."
He continued his criticism, saying, "We can no longer tolerate the behavior of the People Power Party, which is throwing tantrums by calling the Speaker's exercise of authority (to assign standing committee members) in accordance with the National Assembly Act a dictatorship. Their actions are nothing more than whining and stubbornness that show the bottom of regressive politics."
He also emphasized, "This formation of the National Assembly is the first step for the second half of the 22nd National Assembly to support the Lee Jae-myung administration and achieve the recovery of people's livelihoods. We will focus on immediately launching all standing committees as we proceed with the election of standing committee chairs."
Regarding the three major mega-projects for South Korea's great leap forward announced the previous day, Acting Leader Han remarked, "Projects with clear potential should be accelerated, even if it requires enacting special laws. For projects that need a catalyst, we must ensure there are no obstacles, even if it means allocating additional budget."
He added, "(The People Power Party) is making reckless allegations, calling it a dictatorial economic idea and demanding the disclosure of land ownership status in the Honam region by public officials and Democratic Party lawmakers. They should keep in mind that if they attempt to hold us back in a wasteful manner rather than presenting productive and valid opinions, the public will be the first to hold them accountable."
