A woman has died after collapsing during a cosmetic filler procedure performed by the owner of a massage parlor, SBS has learned.
The Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek Police Station has booked a Chinese national in his 30s, identified as A, on charges of professional negligence resulting in death and violations of the Medical Service Act.
A is accused of causing the death of a Chinese woman in her 30s, identified as B, while performing a "Y-zone filler" procedure at a lodging facility in Pyeongtaek on April 30.
The filler procedure, which involves injecting substances into the Y-zone to tighten the mucosal layer, is commonly used for cosmetic purposes and is colloquially known as the "pretty injection."
An autopsy by the National Forensic Service confirmed that B died of a pulmonary embolism caused by complications from the cosmetic filler, meaning blood clots formed during the illegal procedure blocked her pulmonary arteries.
Police investigations revealed that A, who operates a massage parlor, had been recruiting clients via Telegram and performing the procedures without a medical license.
Experts have pointed out that the Y-zone, which contains a high concentration of blood vessels, carries a high risk of blood clot formation when injected with substances, and that the danger is significantly greater when such procedures are performed illegally at unlicensed, non-medical facilities.
