A man holds a frying pan coated with oil out of a window.
Moments later, he cracks an egg into the pan, and it begins to cook.
Amid the record-breaking heatwave sweeping across Europe, a man in the Netherlands took on the challenge of frying an egg outdoors.
The man claimed the temperature at the time exceeded 40°C (104°F) and even showed the egg being flipped a few minutes later, appearing to be fully cooked.
Once the video was released, it sparked a heated debate; while some reacted with shock at the severity of the heatwave, others questioned whether the frying pan had been preheated, arguing that sunlight alone would not be enough to cook an egg.
The Netherlands has been experiencing unprecedented heat for days, with red heatwave alerts issued across the country.
Experts have identified the "Omega heat dome" phenomenon as the cause of the heatwave, where hot air from North Africa is trapped by a high-pressure system over Europe and unable to escape.
