Samsung and SK have announced plans to invest more than 4,755 trillion won to develop the AI industry as a core national growth engine. President Lee Jae-myung referred to the chairmen of the two companies as national heroes and bowed 90 degrees to express his gratitude.

The National Report on the Three Mega Projects was held at the Blue House yesterday afternoon.
Approximately 100 people attended the event, including President Lee Jae-myung, Deputy Prime Minister for Economy Koo Yoon-cheol, other government ministers, and business leaders such as Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong and SK Chairman Chey Tae-won.
President Lee emphasized that South Korea stands at a turning point for a new leap forward, identifying semiconductors, physical AI, and AI data centers as the three pillars of this strategy.

The government announced plans to establish a second semiconductor production hub in the Honam region, following the one in the capital area. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have committed to a total investment of 800 trillion won in the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City.
The government also unveiled plans to deploy 1,000 AI robots annually, train 10,000 specialists in physical AI over the next five years, and elevate the physical AI industry to become a global leader by 2030. Additionally, it announced a 550 trillion won investment to build large-scale AI data centers and develop them into an export industry.
Chairman Lee and Chairman Chey also delivered presentations, outlining large-scale investment plans for semiconductors and AI, including the construction of two memory fabrication plants each by Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix in Jeonnam-Gwangju.

According to the Blue House, the total investment scale, combining government and corporate announcements, amounts to 896 trillion won for the Honam region, 392 trillion won for the Chungcheong region, and 270 trillion won for the Yeongnam region.
