Kim Se-ui, the representative of the YouTube channel Hover Lab, who was arrested and indicted on charges including the dissemination of false information regarding actor Kim Soo-hyun, is reportedly being held in solitary confinement at the Seoul Detention Center.
According to a report by the Kyunghyang Shinmun on the 29th, Kim has been kept in a single-person cell since being transferred to the Seoul Detention Center earlier this month. It is reported that Kim's side requested solitary confinement, citing concerns over potential threats to his safety from those who have filed complaints or lawsuits against him.
While correctional authorities generally assign inmates to shared cells, they may designate solitary confinement following established procedures if it is deemed necessary for the protection of the inmate or the maintenance of order within the facility. The authorities stated that they cannot disclose specific reasons for the housing assignment.
During the first trial for the case involving YouTuber Tzuyang (real name Park Jung-won) held on the 25th, The Attorney for Kim stated, "There are threats of terrorism, so he is being cautious even within the detention center," and requested a change of trial date, a closed trial, and restrictions on public attendance. However, the court did not accept these requests and proceeded with the trial as scheduled.
Kim was arrested last month on charges including spreading false claims that actor Kim Soo-hyun had been in a relationship with the late Kim Sae-ron since she was a minor, as well as threatening the actor by releasing private photos and hinting at further disclosures. The first trial for the Kim Soo-hyun case is scheduled for the 24th of next month.
