Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon emphasized that he will propel Seoul into a global top 3 city and set the future coordinates for South Korea.
Mayor Oh posted a message on Facebook titled "G3 Seoul, I will present the future coordinates for South Korea," stating, "Today, the 'G3 Seoul Planning Committee,' which will design the future of Seoul, has made a powerful start."
Mayor Oh said, "Even semiconductor investments are being swayed by political calculations, and central politics is exhausting national energy by being buried in factional conflicts and the past," adding, "When politics, which should be designing the future, loses its way and makes misjudgments, Seoul must present new coordinates of hope. The planning committee launched today is that very milestone."
He further stated, "'G3 Seoul' is not just a project for Seoul to prosper alone, but a project that presents the next coordinates for the entire Republic of Korea," and added, "I will prove it with overwhelming execution that will change the daily lives of Seoul citizens and awaken the future of South Korea."
At the committee launch ceremony held at Seoul City Hall today (June 29), Mayor Oh said, "If you look closely at the wishes of Seoul citizens, they are not grand," and explained, "They can be summarized as hopes such as 'make the residential environment better' and 'make the commute more comfortable,' and if they are a bit more ambitious, 'I wish Seoul could be a city that makes us feel proud in the international community.'"
He then bowed to the committee members in attendance and said, "I hope you will provide good opinions and supplement any missing parts so that a solid plan can be established for Seoul to move toward a bright future."
The G3 Seoul Planning Committee is the top-level policy planning body that will design the future of Seoul under the 9th popularly elected administration, tasked with establishing the "G3 Seoul Plan" to leapfrog Seoul into a global top 3 city.
Approximately 100 private sector members are participating in the committee.
It operates under a system of 10 subcommittees, including 7 subcommittees related to areas closely linked to citizens' daily lives and 3 special subcommittees that handle key municipal agendas.
Starting with today's launch ceremony, the committee plans to finalize project tasks for each subcommittee by July 7.
Afterward, it plans to hold a plenary meeting at the end of next month to share progress, and after concretizing the projects, it intends to announce the "G3 Seoul Plan" in September.
