[Anchor] Lastly, it seems the refund policy for Kakao Gifticons is changing. Kakao is set to revise its mobile voucher refund policy starting in August.
For gift icons exceeding 50,000 won that are refunded after their expiration date, the refund rate will increase from the current 90 percent to 95 percent starting in August.
Until now, regardless of the voucher amount, consumers received 90 percent of the purchase price back in cash once the expiration date had passed.
The remaining 10 percent was deducted as fees for platform operation and refund processing, which has been a persistent source of consumer complaints.
Under the new terms, mobile vouchers worth 50,000 won or less will maintain the existing 90 percent refund rate, but for high-value vouchers exceeding 50,000 won, the refund rate will be raised to 95 percent.
This means that even if you receive expensive gifts such as home appliances, hotel vouchers, or luxury brand exchange coupons, you will be able to process refunds after the expiration date with a lower fee burden than before.
Additionally, if you choose to receive the refund in Kakao Shopping Points instead of cash, you will be able to receive the full purchase amount in points without any deductions.
Another change concerns notifications regarding the statute of limitations.
Under current law, the rights to mobile vouchers and points expire after five years.
Moving forward, to prevent users from missing these deadlines, the company will provide advance notice of the remaining balance and the upcoming expiration before the statute of limitations ends.
