Han Byung-do, Acting Leader and Floor Leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, addressed the ongoing difficulties in negotiations for the formation of the 22nd National Assembly, stating, "We will certainly finalize the formation of the National Assembly within this month and deliver legislative achievements for the public's livelihood."
During the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly today (June 29), Acting Leader Han emphasized, "The Democratic Party will take the lead in getting the National Assembly up and running."
He continued, "Instead of making unreasonable demands for the Legislation and Judiciary Committee chairmanship, the People Power Party should start by apologizing," and asked, "Who has been obstructing state affairs at every turn by filibustering livelihood bills and paralyzing the operation of standing committees?"
He added, "While the People Power Party remains obsessed with the Legislation and Judiciary Committee chairmanship and paralyzes the National Assembly, the suffering of the public, which has been completely ignored, is growing by the day," and noted, "There is no longer any public willing to tolerate a National Assembly that wastes time under the pretext of empty negotiations."
He further stated, "The Democratic Party will hold an emergency general meeting of lawmakers today to begin preparations for a plenary session to form the National Assembly," adding, "All Democratic Party lawmakers will be on emergency standby until tomorrow to ensure there are no setbacks in the formation process."
Regarding the shortage of ballot papers during the June 3 local elections, Acting Leader Han pointed out, "The infringement of voting rights due to a lack of ballot papers is a disaster that cannot be justified by any excuse," and asserted, "There are no sacred areas when it comes to reforming the National Election Commission."
He continued, "The Democratic Party will push for a special counsel investigation as a party platform today to root out the cause of this incident and punish those responsible, alongside institutional improvements."
