On hot summer nights, many of you have likely had the unpleasant experience of insects swarming toward lights.
But this scene is on an entirely different level.
A vehicle pulls into a gas station, and what is this sight?
Swarms of insects cover the air like black smoke, and they are plastered all over the gas station.
This footage was captured in the U.S. state of Ohio.
Thousands of mayflies descended upon the gas station lights all at once.
They covered not only vehicles but also gas pumps and signs, making it difficult for drivers to see ahead.
Every year around this time, mayflies hatch in massive numbers around lakes. When billions of them take flight simultaneously, they appear like giant rain clouds, even showing up on weather radar.
While they are a nuisance, experts explained that the mass emergence of mayflies is actually a sign that the water quality in the local lakes is healthy.
