A 70-year-old man, identified as A, was arrested today (June 28) for a stabbing incident at the Ilmin Museum of Art, located in the Dong-A Ilbo building in Gwanghwamun, Seoul.
The Seoul Central District Court issued an arrest warrant for A, who faces charges of attempted murder and attempted arson, citing concerns that he might destroy evidence or flee. The court conducted a pre-arrest interrogation starting at 2:00 p.m. today.
A is accused of attacking a 40-year-old acquaintance, identified as B, with a sickle at the museum around 7:47 a.m. on June 26, leaving the victim injured.
Immediately after the crime, A fled by taxi, traveling through Samgakji in Yongsan-gu and Noryangjin in Dongjak-gu, before being apprehended by police at an acquaintance's residence in Gwanak-gu.
It is reported that A had been working in cleaning services at the building, and the victim, B, had also worked at the same location before recently submitting a resignation.
Police arrested A in an emergency operation approximately 10 hours after the incident. During the investigation, police discovered evidence that A had prepared for arson before the stabbing, leading to the additional charge of attempted arson.
A appeared in court today at approximately 1:06 p.m. with a bandage on his right leg. He did not respond to questions from reporters asking about his state of mind or if he had anything to say to the victim.
