The U.S. government has stated that Iran's drone attack targeting a U.S. military base in the Middle East failed.
According to CNN on June 27 (local time), a U.S. official said, "The drones were detected, but they did not reach their targets."
Earlier, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed through state media that it had attacked U.S. military bases in the Middle East in retaliation for U.S. airstrikes.
Iran maintains that it launched retaliatory attacks because the U.S. violated a ceasefire agreement.
The day before, the U.S. conducted airstrikes on Iranian missile and drone storage facilities and coastal radar sites near the Strait of Hormuz.
The U.S. military explained that these airstrikes were a measure taken in response to Iran's attacks on civilian vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
Although the U.S. stated that Iran's attack failed, this exchange marks the first mutual military action since the two countries agreed to a ceasefire.
Meanwhile, the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs also announced the previous day that Iranian drones had attacked its territory.
Bahrain is the country where the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet is stationed.
