South Korea, U.S., and Japan Hold Working-Level Meeting in U.S. to Address North Korean Cyber Threats

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today (June 27) that the 5th South Korea-U.S.-Japan working-level group meeting on responding to North Korean cyber threats was held in Washington D.C. from June 25 to 26.

The meeting was led by Baek Yong-jin, Director-General for Korean Peninsula Policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; David Wyatt, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Japan and Korea at the U.S. Department of State; and Miyake Fumito, Ambassador for Cyber Policy at the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Approximately 80 officials from the diplomatic and relevant government agencies of the three countries, specializing in North Korean nuclear issues and cybersecurity, participated in the meeting.

The three nations shared assessments on North Korea's illegal cyber activities, including the theft and laundering of virtual assets and the operations of its IT personnel, and discussed effective countermeasures through trilateral cooperation.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "The three countries plan to continue these discussions while implementing the cooperative measures agreed upon during this meeting."
