U.S. President Donald Trump focused on appeasing the agricultural sector, stating that Iran will be required to use funds that are set to be unfrozen to purchase U.S. agricultural products.
President Trump invited agricultural industry figures to the White House Rose Garden for dinner on the 25th (local time) and said, "Iran is having a hard time with food, and we are going to take some of their money and use it."
He specifically added, "They are going to buy a lot of wheat, soybeans, and corn, and the process will start quite quickly."
He also emphasized that the purchase volume "will be quite large."
He was reaffirming to the agricultural industry leaders his plan to ensure that when Iran's frozen assets are released, the funds will be used to purchase U.S. agricultural products.
The remarks are intended to appease farmers who have been hit hard by rising prices, including oil prices, while Iran maintains that it will decide how to use its funds on its own.
President Trump also claimed that "we are negotiating (with Iran) from a position of pure strength," asserting that the Strait of Hormuz is already open, Iran has agreed 100% not to possess nuclear weapons, and that both oil prices and inflation are falling.
For President Trump, with the midterm elections approaching in November, managing the agricultural sector, a core support base, is a critical task.
