The National Assembly held a confirmation hearing for Prime Minister nominee Han Seong-suk yesterday (June 25). The People Power Party criticized the nominee over controversies regarding her ownership of multiple homes, while the Democratic Party defended her, calling her the right person for the position of Prime Minister.

The first day of the National Assembly confirmation hearing for Prime Minister nominee Han Seong-suk.
The People Power Party pointed out that the nominee, who previously owned multiple homes, sold three of them after being nominated. Linking this to President Lee Jae-myung's remarks from February criticizing those who own multiple homes, they launched this attack:
[Kim Seon-kyo / People Power Party Lawmaker : You may have escaped the 'devil of multiple home ownership' by the President's standards, but in the eyes of our citizens, you have simply become a 'devil of power.']
Regarding the criticism that she had long neglected the illegal expansion of a building she owns in Jongno, Seoul, despite being aware of the issue, nominee Han explained, "It took time to consult with the district office regarding the demolition."
The People Power Party also questioned her views on national security, asking, "Who is the main enemy?" Nominee Han stated that "any entity that threatens the Republic of Korea is our enemy," adding that "North Korea is in a dual situation as both a threat and our compatriots."

On the other hand, ruling party members of the hearing committee characterized the opposition's offensive as excessive criticism. They praised the nominee's capabilities as a former IT business executive and defended her as the right person for the Prime Minister position.

The ruling and opposition parties are scheduled to continue their debate on the second day of the confirmation hearing today (June 26).
