Presiding over a meeting of senior presidential secretaries at the Blue House this afternoon (June 25), President Lee Jae-myung emphasized that to usher in an era of "growth for all," where the capital region and local areas thrive together, it is necessary to spread investments in advanced core industries to the provinces.

Following the statement by Blue House Policy Chief Kim Yong-beom yesterday that discussions on establishing a second semiconductor complex in regions such as Honam are in the final stages, President Lee emphasized today the "establishment of an industrial and economic foundation in local regions" from the perspective of "overcoming the unipolar system where the capital region absorbs everything and achieving balanced national development." He added that he would also expedite institutional support for this.

President Lee announced that he plans to report the specific blueprint to the public soon.
It is expected that at a public-private joint meeting on balanced regional development on the 29th of next week, large-scale local investment plans for the semiconductor industry, including Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, will be finalized. The following day, on the 30th, a public report session regarding new industrial investments in the southwestern region, including Honam and Chungcheong, is expected to be held to explain the details.
President Lee, who met with SK Chairman Chey Tae-won on the 19th, held a private meeting with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong today. It is believed that they discussed plans for local investments, including the construction of the semiconductor complex to be unveiled next week.
