President Lee Jae-myung has extended his condolences following the massive casualties caused by a powerful earthquake in Venezuela.
On his social media today (June 25), President Lee wrote, "I cannot help but feel deep sorrow at the news that a series of earthquakes with a magnitude of 7 or higher have struck the Yaracuy state in northwestern Venezuela."
He stated, "On behalf of the people and the government of the Republic of Korea, I extend my deepest condolences to the victims and their bereaved families who have lost their precious loved ones and homes to this sudden disaster."
He added, "I pray for the swift recovery of the affected areas, the quick healing of the injured, and the safe return of those who are missing," and expressed his hope that "they may return to their peaceful daily lives as soon as possible."
President Lee also provided the message in Spanish, the official language of Venezuela.
On the 24th (local time), a series of powerful earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 struck near the Venezuelan capital of Caracas, leaving at least 32 people dead and 700 injured so far.
