Actor So Ji-sub shared his feelings about returning to SBS, a place he considers his "hometown," for the first time in 13 years since the drama *Master's Sun*.
On the afternoon of June 25, a press conference for the new SBS Friday-Saturday drama *General Manager Kim* (written by Nam Dae-joong, directed by Lee Seung-young and Lee So-eun) was held at the SBS headquarters in Mok-dong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by director Lee Seung-young and actors So Ji-sub, Choi Dae-hoon, Yoon Kyung-ho, Joo Sang-wook, and Son Na-eun, who shared various stories about the production.
*General Manager Kim* is based on the popular webtoon of the same name. It is a "father-universe" revenge action drama about a man who is the "most ordinary father in the world" but becomes the "most dangerous man in the world" to fight for his only daughter.
So Ji-sub, who is returning to an SBS drama for the first time in 13 years since *Master's Sun*, said, "I debuted in 1996 with the SBS drama *Model*. I have done many projects with SBS since then, and I even played my first lead role here. As my previous works on SBS have had a good track record, I have high expectations for *General Manager Kim* as well." He added, "SBS feels like a hometown to me, so I felt comfortable and happy. Coming back to a familiar space allowed me to film without any discomfort."
In the drama, So Ji-sub plays 'General Manager Kim,' an ordinary employee at a small savings bank who lives only for his high school sophomore daughter, Min-ji (played by Seo Soo-min). However, his true identity is that of a former special operations agent, a man whose very existence is like a ticking time bomb.
Regarding his decision to choose this project, he cited a thirst for action and a solid narrative. So explained, "I received the script just as I was wanting to do an action drama again. I felt that the story of General Manager Kim and the desperate emotions of a father who has lost his daughter would be a great challenge as an actor."
He particularly noted that compared to his previous action roles, such as in the Netflix series *The Square*, this project involved intense, high-level work. So emphasized, "If my previous action roles were like a moth flying into a flame, risking death, the action in *General Manager Kim* is a desperate fight to live with his daughter. I think the tone is different."
As someone who does not have children in real life, So expressed his gratitude for the help he received in portraying deep paternal love. "I received a lot of advice from director Lee Seung-young and help from actress Seo Soo-min, who plays my daughter. Thanks to her treating me like a real father on set, I was able to immerse myself in the role," he said.
Meanwhile, *General Manager Kim* will premiere on Friday, June 26, at 9:50 p.m., following the conclusion of *Brave New World*.
