The National Fire Agency will hold an emergency meeting of national fire commanders at its headquarters in Sejong City tomorrow morning (June 26).
This meeting was organized to eradicate irrational organizational cultures—such as forced drinking at company dinners, private errands, and workplace sexual harassment—which were identified as contributing factors to the death of a 28-year-old firefighter, identified as Fire Lieutenant A from the Gwangsan Fire Station, who took their own life last October.
At the meeting, the National Fire Agency plans to convey to the leadership its policy of strictly responding to unfair practices and misconduct within the organization, regardless of rank, and will urge them to personally inspect working environments and organizational culture.
In addition, the National Fire Agency plans to form an "Organizational Culture Innovation Task Force (TF)" to prepare institutional safeguards to prevent the recurrence of similar cases. These measures include improving organizational culture across the board, supplementing inspection functions, activating channels for public interest reporting, and implementing strict personnel actions.
